The Wah Yun Culture and Arts Academy dba Chinese Lion Dance Association was founded for the purpose of promoting and perpetuating an appreciation for Chinese culture in the State of Hawaii. This is done by the following: Teaching of Chinese martial arts known as Gung Fu and the Chinese Lion and Dragon Dance to persons of every race, age, religion, gender and culture; the giving of demonstrations of the Chinese Lion & Dragon Dance and Gung Fu, and other forms of Chinese entertainment; performing at various cultural activities and events such as parades, cultural shows, festivals, and the like; performing at weddings and other events; and the spreading of good will to every segment of the community at large. Students are taught in hopes they will be able to pass on their knowledge to generations to come.
We base our teachings on the following pledge which is said before and after each class session. This is our Moe Duck or Code of Martial Arts Ethics:
"I pledge to exercise my mind, body, spirit; to honor and perpetuate the Chinese culture.
JIN SEE JUNG DOE - I will respect my sifu and teachers.
JUNG SUM - I will be honest and trustworthy.
YEE HAY - I will be loyal to and be proud of my school, teachers, brothers, and sisters.
HOW SUN - I will show respect to my parents and teachers.
YUN SUM - I will be humble and respect others.
KUN HAWK, KUN LEEN, YUT SAN WAN, YUT SAN GO - I will practice with all my heart and always strive for higher goals."
